Wearable Art: Upcycled Textile Intensive - July 30 - August 1
Wearable Art: Upcycled Textile Intensive
3-Day Studio Intensive Workshop
Step beyond traditional sewing and into the world of wearable art.
This immersive 3-day intensive is designed for makers who are ready to transform garments into expressive, one-of-a-kind pieces through stitching, layering, reconstruction, and creative exploration. Using upcycled textiles, you’ll explore deconstruction, composition, and reconstruction while developing your own artistic voice.
Rather than following a strict pattern, this workshop encourages experimentation, layering, and intuitive design. Over three immersive studio days, we’ll move through the full creative process:
✂️ Deconstruct
🧵 Design
🔥 Rebuild
You’ll be guided from concept to completion with demonstrations, creative exercises, and plenty of individual support along the way.
What you’ll explore:
• Deconstructing garments for maximum usable material
• Designing with intention, balance, and visual flow
• Combining fabrics, textures, and stitch techniques
• Building structure and form in wearable pieces
• Finishing techniques for a polished result
You’ll leave with:
• A completed wearable art garment or textile piece
• New skills in upcycling and creative construction
• Greater confidence in your design process
Students who have taken the Intro to Upcycling workshop will feel especially prepared—but it is not required.
Skill Level: Intermediate to advanced (comfortable with a sewing machine recommended). This workshop welcomes all styles and aesthetics—from expressive wearable art to visible mending, reconstructed streetwear, layered textiles, and artistic garment transformation.
Dates: Thursday, July 30 – Saturday, August 1
Duration: 3 consecutive days (4–6 hours each day)
Class Size: Limited to 6–8 students to ensure personalized guidance
Materials: Students bring garments to upcycle (detailed supply list provided after registration). A curated selection of reclaimed textiles and specialty materials will also be available.
Investment: $350
Limited spots available.
A specially curated selection of trims, patches, embellishments, and specialty threads will be provided to enhance your project.
This workshop is ideal for those ready to move beyond the basics and create work that is personal, expressive, and entirely unique.
📝 Cancellation Policy
Please note: Workshop fees are non-refundable.
If you’re unable to attend, we’re happy to offer a one-time transfer to a future session of Sewing Lessons or a similar class, based on availability. To be eligible for rescheduling, notice of cancellation must be received at least 72 hours before the workshop.
No-shows or cancellations made within 72 hours of the workshop start time are not eligible for rescheduling.
Thank you for understanding — your spot holds valuable space and materials prepared just for you!
